Fortune Koloba dies in tragic accident

FORMER Kaizer Chiefs and Vaal Professionals striker Fortune Koloba is dead, only a week after the nation mourned the death of ex-Amakhosi and Orlando Pirates player Thomas "Zero" Johnson.

Koloba was killed in a car accident on Allandale Road in Midrand late on Sunday after the stationary car he was in was hit from behind by another car.

Family spokesperson and former Bafana Bafana winger Lovers Mohlala confirmed the death of Koloba, who was a development coach.

"Fortune was travelling with friends. Their car got a puncture in Midrand. Fortune was asleep," Mohlala said yesterday. "While the driver was busy changing the tyre, another car hit theirs from behind. Fortune died instantly. This is a big loss to soccer development.

"I worked with Fortune at the Ex-Professionals Soccer Academy and he was committed to his work," he said.

Mohlala, the founder of the academy, said funeral arrangements were still to be finalised.

Meanwhile, Johnson's memorial service will take place at Regina Mundi Church in Rockville, Soweto, on Friday. He will be buried at Avalon Cemetery on Sunday.
