Power to fix energy crisis lies within Eskom, not a new minister

The state of the nation address (Sona) and the energy crisis have given us a minister of electricity and a declaration of another state of disaster. Government clearly does not operate on evidence, because if it did, they would have known by now that appointing more ministers does not add value to the quality of life for ordinary South Africans.

Adding new ministers is about politics – a politics of factionalism. When Jacob Zuma defeated Mbeki in 2007 to become president in 2009, he would not have done it without an assembly of many different factions coming from all corners of greed in the ANC...
