Police and security personnel have been called to the Netcare Umhlanga Hospital after a patient threatened those inside the facility‚ a source said on Tuesday morning.
A source on the scene‚ who spoke on condition of anonymity‚ said it appeared that a patient from the hospital had forced his way into a ward.
It is understood that the man‚ once inside the ward‚ broke windows and mirrors‚ using a fire extinguisher.
He was threatening to attack people inside the ward‚ a source said.
The ward was hastily evacuated with security personnel then storming in and detaining the man. He was sedated and restrained. The second floor of the hospital was cordoned off with a raft of police and security vehicles at the entrance.
