More than 170 arrests made in Blue Downs Cluster over weekend

A total of 177 suspects have been arrested on various charges in the Blue Downs Cluster in the Western Cape during police operations conducted over the weekend.

The arrests include that of a 20-year-old man who was caught in Belhar on Sunday morning driving a vehicle that turned out to be stolen in Muizenberg in December during a house break-in.

Police spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Andrè Traut said police spotted suspect in the Mercedes Benz while patrolling in Roddezandt Crescent.

On Saturday evening police arrested a 33-year-old man in Kleinvlei in connection with two cases of attempted murder that occurred on March 24 and December 5 last year respectively. Traut said.

He added that also on Saturday evening‚ Ravensmead police acting on information received and found a shotgun with one round at Aandblom Street in Uitsig and arrested a 50-year-old man for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
