Convicted murderer Patrick Wisani was clueless on the whereabouts of his newly appointed legal representative.

The former ANC Youth League and community policing forum chairman in Yeoville, Johannesburg, was convicted on Monday for killing his girlfriend Nosipho Mandleleni, 24.

Yesterday he told the South Gauteng High Court sitting in the Randburg Magistrate's Court that he was ready for his fate. "My family said they have found a lawyer for me. I don't know why he is not here. My lord, I have been briefed by my family that they have agreed informally with an advocate to represent me ."

On Tuesday, he told the court that his family and friends would obtain a lawyer to represent him during sentencing.

After consulting with a family member yesterday, Wisani said said: "December 12 is a suitable date for me. We are hoping to conclude the discussion [for a lawyer]. December 12 must be set for sentencing."

However, Judge Mohammed Ismail warned that sentencing was a process and needed time. He advised that it would be better if the matter was postponed for a provisional date.

Wisani, who has been representing himself, promised that his mitigation and sentencing could take a day.

Throughout the trial, Wisani maintained his innocence and accused some of the witnesses of lying, contradicting each other and that they had fabricated a story to implicate him.

He denied being at the crime scene at the time despite cellphone records placing him in the area and the deceased's twin sister Siphokazi's evidence that she heard Mandleleni screaming in his room, went there and was confronted by Wisani carrying a bloodied broken broomstick who promised not to hit Mandleleni again.

After his conviction, Wisani told the court that he would seek a lawyer to assist him with sentencing .

On September 5 last year, Wisani whipped Mandleleni to death with a sjambok and a broomstick inside a room they were renting in Yeoville. Mandleleni died from excessive loss of blood and blunt force trauma.

His R3000 bail was revoked after he assaulted Siphokazi outside a club in Johannesburg on May 22. He threatened her not to testify against him.

The case was postponed to December 12.
