Sangoma in baby kidnapping case released

A sangoma who was arrested in connection with the kidnapped of a 14-month-old child from Protea Glen‚ Soweto has been released.

Xolani Victor Ntshingila‚ 25 together with the toddler’s nanny‚ Nompilo Innocentia Mpanza‚ 31 and Thokozani Mpanza were arrested last week in Newcastle‚ KwaZulu-Natal after the abduction of Siyabonga aged 14 months.

The trio and another man‚ who was arrested on Sunday morning‚ appeared in the Protea regional court on charges of kidnapping and robbery‚ amongst others.

Police spokesman‚ Mpande Khoza said the sangoma was released on Monday following a review of his involvement in the matter.

“There is insufficient evidence to prosecute against him‚ we found that we could not have a successful prosecution against him if we proceeded with the little evidence we have. Our evidence is heavily on the other three who will be back in court soon‚” Khoza said.

Siyabonga was kidnapped from his home last week when two men robbed his home.

They tied up his mother and a nanny with a rope before robbing them of cell phones‚ tablets and other household valuables and making off with the toddler.

He was found in Kwa-Zulu Natal by the police on Friday.
