Grade 10 girl in court after boyfriend dies in suspicious 'fall'

A 17-year-old Grade 10 girl from Lydenburg‚ Mpumalanga was due to appear in court on Tuesday for allegedly murdering her boyfriend whom police were told had “fallen from a tree“.

Police were alerted to the “fall” by a local hospital on Saturday‚ October 15.

“The report was about a person who was alleged to have died after falling from a tree‚ onto a sharp object that badly injured him under the left arm. Police went to the hospital where they found the body of the man and opened an inquest‚” said police spokesman Sergeant Gerald Sedibe.

The following day‚ “the police and the family of the deceased went to the scene where the incident had occurred‚ which is around Lydenburg at a certain house. The reason was to investigate this matter further as they realised that something was not adding up.

“On their arrival at the scene‚ they requested to see the tree from which the victim allegedly fell and also the sharp object that was alleged to have been the object that led to the suspect’s fatal injury. However‚ no object could be found and that is when foul play was suspected‚” he said.

It was the discovered that the 21-year-old man had been involved in a dispute with his 17-year-old girlfriend which allegedly led to a fatal stabbing.

The teenager was to appear in the Lydenburg Magistrate’s Court. — TMG Digital
