An African National Congress (ANC) complaint that its votes were being given to the African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP) caused drama at the Electoral Commission of SA’s (IEC’s) operations centre in Nelson Mandela Bay on Thursday.

ANC party agents and members present at the centre complained to the IEC that votes for the ANC in Ward 38‚ KwaNoxolo‚ had instead been credited to the ACDP.

Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) party agent Bastian Bosch challenged IEC regional supervisor Crosby Bacela’s decision to capture the results even though there was a dispute.

Bosch was unhappy there was no formal written complaint about the Ward 38 results.

“Our votes were given to ACDP‚ which didn’t even contest that ward‚” said ANC Eastern Cape executive committee member Andile Lungisa.

The ANC also lodged a dispute with the IEC about the result in Helenvale‚ which was won by the Democratic Alliance (DA).

“There was a problem with the ballot boxes which we have complained about officially‚” Lungisa said
