Krecjir's alleged mistress was part of jailbreak plot‚ say cops
At the weekend‚ police arrested Radovan Krecjir’s alleged mistress and a long-serving prison warder for their alleged involvement in a plot to break the Czech fugitive out of Zonderwater prison‚ police spokesperson Vishnu Naidoo said.
Naidoo said that‚ in March this year‚ detectives responsible for the investigation of cases against Krecjir and several other accused uncovered an elaborate — and possibly deadly — scheme to free Krecjir.
This led to the arrest of three people in April — Krecjir‚ fellow inmate Sandile Mdumbe and Zonderwater Correctional Services officer Solly Metlae.
“On Friday…a senior prison official‚ Martinus Johannes Hendrik Herbst‚ 49‚ was arrested at the prison. The following day‚ Marissa Christopher‚ 37‚ who is believed to be close to Krecjir‚ went to visit him in prison and she was subsequently arrested. The latter two accused are alleged to have also formed part of the plot to help Krecjir escape‚” said Naidoo.
Herbst and Christopher both appeared in Kempton Park Regional Court 2 on Monday on charges of defeating the ends of justice‚ corruption and conspiracy to aid a prisoner to escape from lawful custody.
The matter was postponed to July 26 for a formal bail application‚ and the state has indicated that it intends opposing bail.
Christopher‚ who shot to fame in 2012 as a Playmate for South Africa’s Playboy magazine‚ is also the daughter of former Umkhonto weSizwe leader‚ Russell Christopher.
News reports have said Christopher is also the mother of Krejcir’s child.
In 2014‚ the Czech crime boss allegedly footed a monthly rental bill of R90 000 for a mansion in Linksfield where Christopher stayed.
Christopher‚ however‚ publicly denied being Krejcir’s girlfriend.
Christopher was also one of the witnesses listed to testify when Krejcir’s multimillion-rand property and vehicle assets were placed under curatorship. –
