Following a confirmed case of African Horse Sickness in the Western Cape‚ the provinces minister of economic opportunities‚ Alan Winde‚ will conduct a site visit to the affected farm.

“Tomorrow‚ Minister Winde will visit the Paarl farm where vets have put a series of control measures in place‚” spokesperson for the minister Bronwynne Jooste said.

She said that last week a horse on the farm had died from African Horse Sickness (AHS). No other horses on the property had tested positive.

In response‚ the state vets had immediately placed the property under quarantine and implemented movement restrictions in the area‚ Jooste said.

“Minister Winde will provide an update on the matter and discuss the impact of the case.”

“Exports are crucial for growth in this industry. This is why we are adamant about maintaining our AHS Free Zone for this purpose‚” said Winde.
