Arts and Culture Minister was booed off the stage while trying to make a speech at the Cape Town International Jazz Festival on Saturday night‚ according to tweets from people who attended the event.

The incident apparently happened during a performance by local duo Mafikizolo.

Justice4all@unathi–kwaza tweeted: “So Nathi Mthethwa takes the stage after Mafikizolo. Starts talking and people started boo’ing him in unison. #CTJazzFest.”

This met with several responses‚ including: “he was probably killing the vibe..reminding them of the ANC mess whilst they were trying to forget” and “people are fed up with ANC”.

Another festivalgoer tweeted: “hopefully the taste of how the election is going to go....”

“they taught him(Nathi Mthethwa) a lesson‚they think people are stupid and uneducated‚” another tweeted.

This was followed by: “Sorry Nathi Mthethwa‚ the people have spoken you can go home now #CTJazzFest #CTIJF.”

Mthethwa’s department is one of the official sponsors of the festival which attracts close to 40‚000 people over two days.
