An administrator at the City of Cape Town on Tuesday appeared in court alongside his wife and girlfriend, following claims that he granted multi-million rand tenders to his own company, as well as to the companies of both women.
Paul Hattingh, his wife Simoney and his alleged lover, Esmeralda Plato, were each granted bail of R50 000 by the Cape Town Commercial Crimes Court, said Hawks spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi.
Hattingh, who also sits on the tender board, allegedly awarded the tenders to the three companies between 2008 and 2014, swindling the city out of R70m.
"The three companies - Cosmic Gold 532, Cosmic Gold 517 and TTANIC Trading - were awarded tenders to supply the City of Cape Town with cleaning materials, as well as refuse bags. Each tender cost between R900 000 and R45 million," Mulaudzi said.
The three were scheduled to again appear in court on March 17.
