PLATINUM Stars defender Thabiso Semenya wants the club to rediscover the form of 2012-2013‚ when‚ under coach Cavin Johnson‚ they were a nuisance for Stuart Baxter’s Kaizer Chiefs side.

Dikwena‚ who finished second behind Amakhosi‚ were the first team to beat Chiefs that season‚ outclassing them in a 2-0 victory at Royal Bafokeng Stadium in November 2012.

The second-round fixture ended goalless as Dikwena frustrated hosts Amakhosi at FNB Stadium.

Now as they prepare to meet at Cape Town Stadium on Sunday‚ Semenya is banking on coach Johnson to again come up with a solid plan to frustrate league hopefuls Amakhosi‚ who are in fourth place on 25 points.

Sixth-placed Stars are looking for their first league win since November 1‚ when they beat struggling University of Pretoria 2- 0.

“Maybe Cavin just knows how to plan against Chiefs.

“We always played our best football against Chiefs that season‚” Semenya said on Wednesday.

“But now Chiefs have a different coach [Steve Komphela]. We will see who comes out tops between the two coaches on Sunday.”

He added: “We have not won in a long time‚ but every team has a slump. We are going through that phase now but things will get better. We won’t match them in terms of support in the stands‚ but we can match them on the pitch. We are prepared for them.”

Stars’ winless run was stretched to five matches when they lost 2-1 to Free State Stars on Sunday‚ after taking the lead before half time.

They had a horrible second half‚ especially in defence‚ where they’ll need to improve if they want to get anything out of the match against Amakhosi.

“We can bounce back from that defeat against Free State Stars.

“We gave away soft goals because of individual mistakes‚ but we have to work on them as a team. We need to work on defending. We are going to need character.”

Semenya says Stars will be happy with a top-five finish this season‚ as he ruled out his side’s chances of challenging for the title.
