One killed‚ 15 injured in Sandton taxi collision

One person was killed and 15 people injured when a taxi overturned on the M1 north after Grayston Road in Sandton north of Johannesburg on Sunday morning‚ paramedics reported.

ER24 emergency medical service said it was understood that the taxi had collided with a stationary vehicle on the freeway.

Three of the injured were trapped in the taxi and had to be freed by rescue workers.

“The fifteen occupants of the taxi were treated for various injuries ranging from cuts‚ bruises and possible spinal injuries. All of the injured were transported to various hospitals in the vicinity for further medical care. Sadly‚ one occupant from the taxi was found with fatal injuries and declared dead on the scene.

“Occupants from the stationary vehicle were assessed by paramedics but found that they sustained no injuries. They later declined to be transported to hospital‚”ER24 said.

In another accident involving a taxi‚ 12 people were injured on Sunday morning when a taxi overturned and rolled several times on the M13 in Hillcrest‚ north of Durban in KwaZulu Natal.

“Three people were treated for moderate injuries and nine others were treated for minor injuries on the scene. They were later transported to RK Khan and St Mary’s Hospitals respectively‚” ER24 said.
