ANC wants farmers to give equity to workers

The African National Congress (ANC) national general council meeting ended on Sunday with a mixed bag of policy offerings on the economy: while the party wants a closer working relationship with the private sector to fashion better job creation measures‚ it also made it official policy that farm owners give half their equity to farm workers.

Contradictory policies have been a problem for the ANC government‚ with messages crafted to attract growth and investment frequently contradicted by messages with social equity or national security concerns.

ANC economic transformation head Enoch Godongwana said that in the context of an unfavourable economic environment‚ the commission on the economy had identified key measures that could make a difference to economic performance.
