The Limpopo man who is accused of stabbing to death his four sons wants to be jailed without being tried in a court of law. He is even willing to be hanged.

This was the testimony of provincial MEC for Safety, Security and Liaison Mapula Mokaba-Phukwana, who told mourners during the funeral of the slain boys on Saturday she interviewed the father in his hospital bed.

Lesiba Simon Kekana, 37, was admitted to hospital after he tried to commit suicide.

The children's mother Lorraine spent much of the time crying and was comforted by family members.

"The father of the kids made a voluntary confession without any duress," said the MEC.

She said he told her he did not know what came over him.

"He said he wanted to hurt his wife by killing the children," Mokaba-Phukwana said.

"He confessed having slit their necks, one by one, before attempting to take his own life."

The MEC further urged men to take part in forumsaimed at discussing challenges they encounter.

Provincial police commissioner Lieutenant-General Fannie Masemola told mourners Kekana appeared in court on Tuesday "in absentia", and that his case was postponed to October 2 for a formal bail application.

He said they hoped Kekana would have completely healed by then to answer to the four murder counts.

Hlologelo, 13, Keneilwe, 10, Bokang, 6, and Lekgoledi Kekana, 4, were buried at the Moletlane cemetery.
