Police confirm 3 deaths in Durban taxi rank shoot-out

Kwazulu-Natal police confirmed that three people were killed in a shoot-out at a taxi rank in Durban’s city centre on Wednesday morning.

Major Thulani Zwane said three people were killed and three others wounded in the shoot-out in Brook Street.

“For now I can confirm that three are dead. We are at the scene trying to establish what exactly happened here. I can’t confirm if it is taxi violence or as a result of some sort of protests‚” he said.

Netcare 911’s Chris Botha said six people were killed.

“Netcare 911 paramedics and the provincial ambulance services arrived at the scene and was faced with carnage. After triaging the injured it was found that six people had tragically lost their lives due to the extensive injuries that they sustained‚ three others sustained minor injuries.”
