SAHRC to conduct inspection in loco into living conditions at school for deaf

The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) says it will on Tuesday conduct an inspection in loco following an investigation into the living conditions of pupils at the Northwest School for the Deaf following the tragic death of three pupils there.

The pupils died in their sleep three weeks ago when their hostel at the school in Leeudoringstad was razed by fire.

“The Commission is currently investigating this matter and seeks to find out‚ among others‚ if the fire warning systems at the school were functional‚ and if any school official was on duty at the time of the fire. The Commission will also investigate whether there is any violation of human rights‚” the SAHRC said in a statement.
