Man accused of stabbing wife more than 50 times awaits mental check

The man accused of stabbing his wife more than 50 times and leaving her dying on the side of the road is still waiting to undergo psychiatric evaluation.

Yengesen Pillay‚ 42‚ was arrested last year (08-16-2014) for allegedly stabbing his wife Shareen‚ 41‚ after an argument. Her body was found outside an office park in Bryanston. She was still breathing when a passer-by found her but she later died in hospital.

Pillay was arrested a few days later in Pietermaritzburg. He attempted to commit suicide while in police custody.

Pillay’s case was once again postponed at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court‚ Johannesburg‚ on Monday pending psychiatric evaluation.

He has been on the waiting list for a bed at Sterkfontein Psychiatric Hospital to have his fitness to stand trial determined since last year.

He will appear in court again next month.
