A Tshwane metro police officer was killed when he was hit by a bus on Monday, a spokesman said.
The officer, in his late 40s to early 50s, was hit by a bus on the N1 near Wallmansthal, north of Pretoria, Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba said.
He died on the scene. His identity could not be disclosed until his family had been informed. The accident was being investigated.
"We are sad as a department to lose one of our members like this. We try on a daily basis to patrol and attend to scenes to ensure the safety of motorists and it's very sad that one of ours has to die like this," Mahamba said.
