A staff member at Pick n Pay in Norwood, Johannesburg was severely injured on Tuesday, the store's management said.
"One of our butchery staff was involved in a very unfortunate accident... and his arm was severely injured," Pick n Pay group executive of store operations Wim Theron said in a statement.
"Emergency responders, including a doctor, were on the scene swiftly."
Reports that the man was injured when his arm got caught in the store's mincer and he was taken to Milpark hospital could not be immediately confirmed as investigations were under way.
"Standard operating procedures were put in place and we are investigating the incident," said Theron.
