THE ANC should not be referred to as the ruling party, Deputy Chief Justice Dikgang Moseneke told a gathering of black managers on Thursday evening.

Moseneke, speaking at the Black Management Forum’s inaugural Lot Ndlovu lecture in Bryanston, Johannesburg, said politicians must view themselves as servants rather than rulers.

The lecture honoured Ndlovu, a former BMF president who died last year.

“We should stop referring to our leaders as rulers but [call them] servants.

“We cannot have a ruling party but [should have] a serving party,” Moseneke said.

Moseneke said opposition parties should also seek to be the servants of the people.

He bemoaned that the economy was not growing and creating many jobs that will liberate people from poverty. He said children should be taught to work diligently and create long-term wealth instead of making a living from government tenders.

He added that all chapter nine institutions, such as the Public Protector and Auditor General,  should be supported.
