ANCYL slams restaurant owners: Report

An ANCYL member alleged to have dodged paying a R83,000 restaurant bill has accused its owners of trying to popularise their restaurant by tarnishing his name, The Sunday Independent reported.

Themba Dlomo said he was friends with Chris Munsamy, the owner of the Velvet Restaurant in Durban who has since opened a case against him.

"I understand they may be desperate to popularise the venue, but it should not be at my expense," he said.

Munsamy dismissed Dlomo's allegations.

"I am not trying to popularise the venue, I am just trying to get the bill settled," he was quoted as saying.

The Sunday Independent reported last week that the restaurant had hosted two parties for Dlomo and his associate Bongumusa Gumude in April.

A funder was reported to have been responsible for footing the bill.

Dlomo told the paper he was surprised to have later received sms messages from Munsamy about the bill. He forwarded them to the funder.
