Police have found the bodies of a man, his wife and their four-year-old daughter after investigating a series of gunshots, Free State police said on Tuesday.

"Police officers found the body of a 34-year-old woman, Mathapelo Tleru, inside the yard with three bullet wounds," said Sergeant Mamello Mokhuoane.

The shooting happened at C-hostel in Thabong about 11.45pm on Monday night.

Mokhuoane said a 53-year-old man, Teboho Tleru, was found inside the house, on the couch, with a wound to the head.

He had a firearm in his hand.
