Public masturbator denied bail

A man accused of attempting to coerce school girls to perform oral sex on him and masturbating in front of primary school pupils was denied bail in the Roodepoort Magistrate's Court, according to a report on Monday.

The 30-year-old man is charged with two counts of sexual assault and six of sexual exploitation of a minor, The Star newspaper reported.

The court ruled against granting him bail on the grounds that he might commit similar offences after admitting to police that he "had a problem".

According to the newspaper, the alleged offences occurred between February and April this year and the man had been in custody since his arrest on April 9.

In two cases the accused allegedly drove slowly past a high school in his car. On both occasions he was alleged to have worn no pants, had his penis in his hand, and asked girls for oral sex in exchange for money.

In another case he was alleged to have stopped next to a primary school during the children's break time and, in full view of the girls separated from him by a fence, masturbated and ejaculated, and then winked at the girls before driving off.

The alleged victims' age ranged from 11 to 17.
