FORMER Generations actor Rapulana Seiphemo walked out of the Roodepoort Magistrate's Court yesterday a free man after the prosecutor decided not to prosecute him.

The married actor was due to appear in court after his arrest on Saturday in Honeydew for allegedly slapping a female friend. He spent part of the weekend behind bars.

His lawyer Lehlohonolo Adonisi spoke to the media outside the court and described the incident as a misunderstanding. "The prosecutor decided not to prosecute. This could encompass a number of reasons but one of them for sure was that both parties did not want to pursue the matter further," Adonisi told Sowetan.

Media reports earlier speculated that the Jerusalema actor had slapped his wife.

Adonisi denied those allegations stating the two would continue to be "friends".

"There was no romantic involvement between the two," he said.

The lawyer declined to comment on what transpired on Saturday that led to his client's arrest.

Adonis said his client had reached an out-of-court settlement with the female friend.

National Prosecuting Authority's spokeswoman Phindi Louw confirmed that the case was withdrawn. "The case was not enrolled due to the fact that a withdrawal statement signed by the complainant was filed," Louw said.

Seiphemo was known for his roles as Pheko Mokoena in Muvhango and Tau Mogale in popular soapie Generations.
