Reeva's death sends shock waves

MURDERED model Reeva Steenkamp's family was last night still trying to come to terms with her death.

Her uncle Mike Steenkamp said: "The family is shocked at what happened. All I can say is that Reeva's vision in life was cut short. As you know she had such an active background from modelling to TV shows she was involved in. She was also a lawyer.

"Her parents are devastated. The whole family has taken it hard. We are just taking everything one day at a time."

Mike said that Steenkamp had one brother. He said the family did not want to comment further on the tragedy.

Hours before her death, the model asked her Twitter followers: "What do you have up your sleeve for your love tomorrow?"

The 30-year-old former FHM model also worked for FashionTV in South Africa as a presenter.

Capacity Relations publicist Shiri Reouveni said Steenkamp was born in Port Elizabeth, lived in Cape Town and then moved to Johannesburg six years ago.

She said Steenkamp enjoyed cooking, was into cars and reading and loved spending time with her friends and family.

"We are absolutely devastated as she was a lovely, kind-hearted girl that has passed away long before her time," Reouveni said.

She described Steenkamp as "always professional, humble, loving and kind".

Steenkamp stars in the new season of SABC1 reality show Tropika Island of Treasure, which premieres tomorrow.

SABC publicity manager Vukile Madlala confirmed that the show would go ahead.

"We are deeply saddened by the tragic turn of events involving one of the players in our show," Madlala said.

Since the news broke yesterday, many friends and celebrities have voiced their opinions on social networks.

Television presenter Jennifer Su wrote: "RIP beautiful woman. We were just talking about you doing more television presenting and your goals and zest for life."

Actress Terry Pheto said: "My heart aches RIP. I will miss your positive energy and love for life. This is so tragic."

Top Billing presenter Jo-Ann Strauss tweeted: "So sad for Reeva Steenkamp's family and for Oscar Pistorius. This highlights how unsafe most South Africans feel."

Television presenter Sade Giliberti said: "But guys then you also have to think. How unsettled are we? We hear a noise, we freak out, we shoot! That's a state of mind."
