Cape Town site notorious for bodies

Three bodies have been found in a field in Atlantis, Cape Town, in the last six months, the Cape Times reported on Wednesday.

The latest body to be found was that of Jo-anne van Schalkwyk, 18. A passer-by found her in Beacon Hill on Tuesday.

"She was found fully clothed... There was no sign that would indicate she was raped, but we have to wait until the autopsy results are released," Atlantis police spokesman Cyril Dicks said.

The body of a pregnant woman was found in the same area in August. Another body was found earlier this month.

No one had been arrested in connection with the crimes.

Van Schalkwyk's stepmother Shirley April told the newspaper her stepdaughter had left home at the age of 16 and was known to be using drugs.

"The last time we saw her was last Monday night with her friend. We are hoping that the girl knows something, but we just can't find her anywhere."
