'Don't put kids under pressure'

THE Mpumalanga education department has urged parents to prevent confusion by accompanying their children when they collect matric results from their schools.

Spokesman Jasper Zwane said principals and teachers would be available to explain any queries they might have.

"We are ready to release the matric results and we are optimistic that the results have improved," Zwane said. "Schools will be open on Thursday and learners should go and fetch their results there.

"Parents are urged to avoid putting their children under pressure, especially those who have not passed. They should support their children, bearing in mind that everyone deserves a second chance."

Zwane said children who required counselling could contact the department helpline on 0800-203-116 during office hours. - mashabas@sowetan.co.za
