Two men have been arrested after being found inside a minibus full of copper cable worth R100,000 in Roodepoort, police said on Friday.

“[Police] received a complaint about a white minibus containing copper cable parked at the taxi rank [in central Roodepoort]” said police spokesman Constable Vincent Mashiteng.

Police went to the taxi rank on Friday morning and found 715kg of copper cable inside the minibus.

The two men inside, aged 30 and 46, could not explain the origin of the cable.

They were subsequently arrested and will appear in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
