'Serial child rapist' stays behind bars

THE Limpopo man accused of raping six girls and two boys in Bolobedu will know on Monday next week whether or not he will be granted bail .

The 22-year-old man from Lenokwe village appeared in the Bolobedu Magistrate's Court yesterday and his case was postponed to November 5 to allow for further police investigations and a bail application.

The man has been charged with eight counts of rape.

He allegedly raped the victims, aged between six and 11 years, between 2008 and this year.

Police spokesman Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said the man allegedly lured the victims to a spaza shop where he gave them snacks before raping them.

Mulaudzi said the victims told a teacher about their ordeal after the teacher had reportedly noticed "something unusual" about them.

The teacher sought the help of a social worker, who informed the police.

Mulaudzi said provincial police commissioner Simon Mpembe had expressed his anger over the abuse of the children .

"Parents must not hesitate to interrogate their children if they see a sudden change in behaviour or anything unusual with them," Mulaudzi said.
