Top lawyer's office is burgled

Zola Majavu is a former PSL official and represented the minor in the ET murder trial

Thieves broke into the offices and stole valuable goods including clients’ documents and a company car of prominent Johannesburg lawyer Zola Majavu, according to a report on Wednesday.

The Star newspaper reported that Majavu said he was asleep on Tuesday morning when police called him at about 1.25am to inform him they found the car near Fun Valley, south of the city.

The car was branded and he told police all the cars were accounted for when he left the office at 10pm.

“I had locked the office myself, and I know that when I left, everything was in order,” he told The Star. “But the police told me that everything about the abandoned car looked suspicious and suggested that I go to the office to check because that is where the car was taken.”

The thieves gained entrance through the ceiling after they removed roof tiles and ransacked the office and deactivated the CCTV, the newspaper reported.

They took the CCTV back-up machine, six plasma screen televisions, two desktop computers, two laptops, a microwave oven and Majavu’s court bag.

“They took a lot of stuff I use for work, even my dictaphone,” he said.

“Most importantly they also took my court bag which [contained] my clients’ documents and my [court] gown.

He said he only had back-up copies of some of the documents and had no idea who had broken into his office.

Majavu represented Patrick Ndlovu, accused of killing right-wing leader Eugene Terre’Blanche, and is also a former PSL executive.

Mondeor police confirmed a business burglary case was opened.
