AUTHORITIES are unlikely to let notorious prison escapee Bongani Moyo appear in court in person again.
Yesterday the alleged robber and serial escapee appeared briefly in court 16 of the Pretoria Magistrate's Court via video link.
He and his gang are linked to 34 bank robberies. The other suspects are Leon Dube, Khumbulani Sibanda and his cousin Thabane Sibanda.
In August last year Moyo cooly limped out of the Pretoria Magistrate's Court and disappeared.
At the time, police said Moyo was left unattended outside the courtroom where he was supposed to appear.
Moyo made headlines when he escaped from Boksburg Prison in March last year. He was arrested two months later near the Beitbridge border post in Limpopo when he returned to South Africa for medical treatment from his native country, Zimbabwe.
Two weeks ago Moyo again tried to escape, this time from Pretoria Central Prison with Sibanda and Dube.
The three men were seriously injured after their botched escape bid.
One of the men sustained further injuries when he tried to cross the busy Potgieter Street and was knocked by an oncoming car.
They were treated for head, legs, neck and facial injuries after they were arrested outside the prison at about 8am.
The three were allegedly found with a gun and other weapons, including knives.
The men were caught with weapons and cellphones in prison in January, and were supposed to have been kept in leg irons on a 24-hour basis.
Moyo's escape trial will resume on April 2.
The robbery trial will resume on May 4 after it was postponed yesterday.
