Four arrested over murder, robbery

FREE State police have arrested four suspects who allegedly robbed and murdered a resident of Cullinan, in Pretoria.

The arrests came after police recovered a stolen car and cellphone from the suspects in Kutloanong, Odendaalsrus, on Monday evening.

The police discovered that the car was stolen in Cullinan and that the owner was murdered at the weekend.

Police spokesman Captain Stephen Thakeng said the suspects were apprehended after the Welkom Flying Squad received information from a tracker company about a stolen vehicle that was in the vicinity.

"We followed the car and tried to stop it but the suspects drove off after noticing we were following them,"Thakeng said.

He said the police spotted four people inside the car - two men and two women - who were acting suspiciously. They then called for back-up.

After giving chase, the police were able to stop the stolen silver Audi A3 1.8 Turbo with Gauteng registration numbers .

Thakeng said the police also found the stolen cellphone, which enabled them to trace the owner of the car.

"A cellphone belonging to the owner of the vehicle, who was already killed, was found inside the motor vehicle when we were busy searching it," said Thakeng.

The suspects, aged between 30 and 35 years, are all residents of Odendaalsrus.

They are expected to appear in court tomorrow, Thakeng added.
