CONVICTED: Victor Mpho Jwili

THE Joburg High Court has ordered two high-profile policemen who were convicted of drug smuggling to pay back thousands they owe to one of SA's leading banks.

Warrant Officer Victor Mpho Jwili, 42, and Captain Ratsheki Landro Makgosani, also 42, of the West Rand organised crime unit owe Standard Bank about R420,000 and R65,000, respectively, on their bonds.

Jwili is about R15,000 in arrears. Makgosani is about R11000 in arrears.

The bank also took the unit's head, Colonel Petros Dumisani Jwara, 47, to court though he is not in arrears.

The bank's attorney, HP van Niewenhuizen, has sought an order declaring certain immovable properties - Jwara's house in Ferndale, Randburg; The Jwilis' house and the Makgosanis' house - executable.

The bank also wants to place them under legal disability.

But Judge Lötter Wepener said the bank was obliged to notify the respondents of their default and that they want to place them under legal disability.

" Jwilis and Makgosanis are granted an opportunity to pay all arrears amounts ... to the Standard Bank within 30 days from this date of order, "said Wepener.

Wepenar said the restraint could laspe after the trial.

Jwara, Jwili and Makgosani were found guilty of drug dealing last year.

Jwara was sentenced to 80 years but will serve only 25 after the judge ordered that the sentences run concurrently. Jwili and Makgosani will serve 22 and 20 years, respectively.

They approached the Supreme Court of Appeal after Coetzee refused their application for leave to appeal.

In 2010 the court issued restraints stopping the trio from dealing with any of their property.

Wepener said legal disability meant that the bank could terminate the loan agreements.

The court ordered that the bank deliver notices outlining payment after 30 days. The bank has to pay the respondents' legal costs.
