R75m to end bucket toilets went missing

THE controversial Nala municipality is accused of mismanaging funds and of corruption after it failed to account for millions of rands.

In 2003, an eradication of the toilet bucket system was approved by the cabinet. The target, which was set for 2006, was later extended to December 2007.

Initially, R70-million was allocated for the bucket eradication programme at Khotsong in Bothaville.

Later the municipality exceeded the budget by R30-million. An additionalR5-million was injected into the project which is still to be completed.
