GAUTENG police are questioning two suspects in connection with the murder of a police officer in Ekurhuleni.
Sergeant Solly Shilubane, 39, was shot and killed while responding to a robbery at Lambton Court in Germiston on Tuesday.
Police spokeswoman Colonel Noxolo Kweza said yesterday: "The suspects were arrested following a jewellery shop robbery at the shopping centre ... two more suspects escaped and hijacked a Ford Bamtam bakkie from a motorist near a local primary school.
"The bakkie was later recovered in Riverlea near Highgate shopping centre. Police have since recovered the jewellery pieces stolen during the robbery."
Kweza said police chased the suspects after they were alerted by members of the public.
"When the suspects saw the police, they tried to hide in the vicinity, however, even members of the community were on their trail," she said.
