Female officers nab 231

MORE than 231 North West motorists felt the sting of women officers who embarked on special operations in Women's Month, the human settlements, public safety and liason department said.

Human settlements, public safety and liaison MEC Desbo Mohono, pictured , said in the first week of operations to reduce accident s and combat lawlessness on the roads, the women officers managed to stop more than 2000 vehicles around Brits and arrested 70 motorists for driving without licences .

They also issued fines to 47 other motorists for driving unlicensed vehicles and more than 100 others for driving unroadworthy vehicles.

The operations include women traffic officers from the provincial road traffic management unit in Bojanala District, South African Police Service and Madibeng local municipality.
