Mom bravely rescues kids

A mother saved her two-month-old baby girl and seven-year-old son from a burning shack

The incident took place in Ipeleng, North West police said on Thursday.

Lieutenant Colonel Lesego Metsi said the mother had left the baby girl with her brother sleeping in the shack, when she had to rush to a nearby tuck shop to buy paraffin on Wednesday.

On her way back from the shop Disebi Masilo ,29, arrived to find  her shack on fire. She then forced her way into the blaze to rescue  her children.

The baby girl suffered first degree burns and was taken to Wolmaranstad hospital and was later transferred to Tshepong hospital in Klerksdorp, said Metsi.

The boy managed to escape unharmed.

The fire was started by a candle left burning in the shack.
