Great Idols turnout in Jo'burg

MONTECASINO was abuzz on Saturday with more than 2000 Idols wannabes turning up for the last Idols Season 7 auditions.

Many youngsters camped overnight at the Montecasino complex and some were still asleep during the proceedings.

Others came as early as 2am to beat the queue.

By the time filming started, with Idols host Proverb welcoming the excited crowd in the Piazza outside the Teatro Theatre, there was rapturous applause and screams.

"We are pleased with the turnout, Jo'burg auditions have always been well attended," said MNet's publicist Ingrid Engelbrecht

The contestants who made it through yesterday's auditions and those who survived the first cut at Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto a week ago will return to perform for three days for the formidable judging panel of Randall Abrahams, Gareth Cliff, Unathi Msengana and special celebrity guest judge HHP.

They will vie for a coveted golden ticket to the next phase of the competition at Sun City on April 14.
