Two MPs resign to make way for others

TWO senior Limpopo politicians have resigned as MECs to pave the way for two other members of the provincial legislature.

Former speaker of the Limpopo legislature Tshenuwani Farisani, who is also the chairperson of the portfolio committee on arts and culture, and his former deputy Koti Nyama, resigned from their positions in Parliament to make way for new deployees of the ANC in Parliament.

Unconfirmed reports indicated that Nyama, who was an ordinary MP, resigned due to ill-health, while Farisani, who was in his second stint in Cape Town, wanted to devote his time to ministerial duties.

Farisani is a pastor at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in the Thohoyandou and Malamulele areas.

Speculation is that the two were pushed out because the ANC in Limpopo wanted to forward two other members from the legislature to Parliament and replace them with new ones.

Approached for comment yesterday Farisani scoffed at allegations that he was pushed and said he had voluntarily resigned.

Though Nyama could not be reached for comment yesterday, Farisani confirmed that she had also resigned "due to ill-health".

The ANC was not available for comment yesterday.
