ANC talks Gumede's R29m debt

THE ANC is discussing claims that it owes IT company Gijima R29 million, the party said yesterday.

"The matter of the money still owed is receiving attention at the highest level of the organisation. This is aimed at ensuring it is sorted out once and for all," ANC spokesperson Brian Sokutu said.

The Sunday Times reported yesterday that Gijima was owed the money after it completed a contract to install computers and IT systems linking ANC MPs' constituency offices with Parliament.

According to the report the work was stopped halfway, due to a funding problem.

Yesterday Sokutu told Sapa: "We still have good relations between Gijima and the ANC in terms of what they have delivered."

Gijima spokesperson Thoko Mnyango said in a statement yesterday that the company had "fully implemented" the work it had been contracted to perform for the ANC.

"The system is up and running and the ANC caucus has never questioned us about the so-called 'value for money' as stipulated in the article. We strongly believe that the ANC is enjoying a high quality service from Gijima," Mnyango said.

She said the Sunday Times report had been read with "dismay" by the company.

Gijima said a picture of non-executive chairman Robert Gumede, with the caption "Pay me now!" on the newspaper's front page, was "mischievous, untrue and sensational".
