Help for raped girl

THE Gauteng department of education has appointed a forensic social worker to help the 11-year-old girl who was raped by a school caretaker.

Spokesperson Charles Phahlane said the social worker from Childline would offer counselling to Nokubonga (not her real name) from Katlehong in Ekurhuleni.

He said a similar process would be followed with another pupil from the school.

The police arrested the 48-year-old man on Monday. This was after a teacher at the school saw Nokubonga talking to the man.

MEC for community safety, Nonhlanhla Mazibuko, pictured, called on communities to renew their collective social responsibility and noted that it was unlikely that a vulnerable child being lured into the criminal's den might not have been noticed.
