Rapist caught while fleeing

COMMUNITY members of Libode in the Eastern Cape tracked down and caught a man after he allegedly raped a 19-year-old woman in the area, police said.

Eastern Cape police spokesman Colonel Mzukisi Fatyela said the 20-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly forced his way into the woman's house and raped her on Saturday at about 11.30pm.

"The woman was sleeping when the man allegedly forced his way into her house and raped her," Fatyela said.

The man fled and the woman alerted her neighbours, who managed to corner him until the police arrested him.

He said the man would face a charge of rape in the Libode magistrate's court today.
