MORE than a thousand schoolchildren gathered at the Protea magistrate's court yesterday baying for the blood of hip-hop musician Jub Jub and his friend Themba Tshabalala.

The two were appearing in court to face several charges after the death of four pupils on Monday afternoon.

Pupils from Altmont Technical High School, Tetelo High School and Reasuma Secondary School abandoned classes to demonstrate outside the court.

Armed with placards, the pupils chanted, "No Jub Jub, no school," as they refused to heed police and parents' calls for them to go back to school. Others threatened to kill the two if they were given bail.

"The courts are going to protect him. We want him here so that we can deal with him ourselves," the teenagers threatened as police struggled to control them.

Some of the placards the pupils carried read: "Down with Jub Jub down; Jub Jub is a killer; If we don't get him, we will get his mother."

Altmont High pupil Makhosazana Ngwenya, 15, said: "We are here to support the families that have lost their children. Jub Jub must not get bail."

Angelina Mandlate, 18, also from Altmont High, said: "He does not deserve a second chance because our deceased peers will never get another chance."

Andile Mthethwa from Tetelo High School said: "I want Jub Jub locked up and the keys thrown away. What he did was terrible. I used to love him and his music but not anymore."

l A memorial service for the four children will be held at Protea South community hall tomorrow afternoon.
