Teachers still waiting for payment

THE Department of Education has remained mum as to when it will pay the long- awaited Occupational Specific Dispensation increment to anxious teachers.

THE Department of Education has remained mum as to when it will pay the long- awaited Occupational Specific Dispensation increment to anxious teachers.

Yesterday the department officials' phones rang answered.

Teachers were expecting to receive the recognition of experience portion of the OSD on Friday last week.

The non-payment was attributed to "administration", denying teachers the pay adjustment which was to be back-dated to 2007.

Instead, teachers only received the 13 to 20 percent general salary increment back-dated from July this year.

Now angry teachers say the department cannot be trusted as hopes of a better Christmas fade.

The National Teachers Union said yesterday the department had not set a date for payment.

Natu deputy president Allen Thompson said the department had not come back to them with a specific date.

There were no reports of disruptions with the majority of matriculants starting their English paper yesterday .
