JOLENE Martin-Morgan, presenter of the new Lotto game show PowerBall, says it will make its competitors look like child's play.

PowerBall's first draw is tonight on SABC 2 at 9.30pm. It will also be screened on Tuesdays at the same time.

Martin-Morgan, 30, will be the first lady of the four-minute show. With more than 17 years of television presenting, Martin-Morgan told Sowetan yesterday how she clinched the deal.

"It was the most gruelling audition of my life and it took eight months," she said. "I had to convince the producers that I can perform under pressure."

Martin-Morgan believes it will be the best thing ever on television.

"It will make any other game show in South Africa look like kid's stuff," she said.

"Expect intense excitement and explosive generosity."

She has been in television since she was 13, presenting Ecovision for SABC.

She also appeared in Scoop Schoombie and Hard Copy and presented the Coca-Cola Mega Millions.

The Cape Flats-born beauty believes her role comes with responsibility.

"I keep my life clean because I'm a role model for young people who struggle with the things I struggled with when I lived on the Cape Flats."

PowerBall's first jackpot is a guaranteed R30million.

Tickets went on sale on October 16 and with the odds at one in 24 million, the stakes might rise to R100million.

Gitidani spokesperson Thembi Tulwana said the game was brought in to lure higher-income players who only play when the stakes are high.

Each ticket costs R3,50 and is sold at all Lottery retailers.

The double matrix coupon has two grids. The first has 45 numbers and the second has 20.

Players have to choose five numbers from the first grid and one number, which is the PowerBall, from the second grid.
