Emerging Boks geared up for wounded Lions

THE Emerging Springboks squad will treat tonight's game against the British and Irish Lions at Newlands in Cape Town as a learning curve.

But they will not show them any respect when they trot onto the field in front of their supporters.

This was the feeling yesterday of head coach Dick Muir after the announcement of the squad to play the visiting team in a 7.10pm kickoff.

Muir has advised the young Boks to take this opportunity with both hands and showcase their talent in a competitive encounter.

Said Muir: "We are blessed with the amount of depth we have in South African rugby and the group of players named today [yesterday] proves that.

"We are wary of the fact that the British and Irish Lions will be looking to bounce back after their defeat in the first Test [against the Boks on Saturday], but I am confident that we'll be competitive against them.

"I am pleased that most of the selected players have been more involved in the Absa Currie Cup and Vodacom Cup for their various teams," said Muir, who is the Springbok assistant coach.
