Referees want match money
A bitter pay wrangle has erupted between Mopani district municipality managers and referees who officiated in the Mayoral Charity Cup.
"We charged the management R400 per game and they promised to pay us before the kick-off of the final," one of the disgruntled referees, Moses Mohale, said.
"We are still waiting for the money two weeks after the tournament took place," he said.
"Each time we approach them for payment they tell us they do not have the budget for us. But they were able to pay the other four PSL referees R2500 on the spot."
Quincy Letsoalo, assistant director of sport, art and culture in the municipality, said yesterday that management was in the process of paying all officials who were involved in the games but they were being held up by "logistics".
