Taximan held over dead woman, 22
The naked body of 22-year-old Ivy Slitoor, who went missing on Saturday, has been found in an open veld in Olievenhoutbosch near Midrand.
Slitoor, who was raped and murdered, was last seen boarding a taxi at the infamous Noord Street taxi rank.
Now the taxi driver and another suspect have been arrested.
Captain Agnes Huma of the Wierdabrug police said Slitoor's body was found by a security guard in an open veld on Sunday morning. She confirmed that Slitoor was raped before she was murdered.
Slitoor's boyfriend, Winnies Bvuma, said the police had tracked down her cellphone to Tembisa. After arresting the first suspect he pointed the area out where they had dumped her body.
Bvuma believes that more than two people were involved in Slitoor's rape and murder.
Slitoor's closest friend, Ayanda Mlandu, described the last contact she had had with Slitoor on Saturday night.
"She was on her way back from visiting her sister in Johannesburg and called me at about 6.45pm to say she was about to take a taxi back to Midrand, where she lived with her boyfriend," Mlandu said.
Slitoor called her boyfriend an hour later and said that she had arranged for the taxi driver to drop her off at their complex in Noordwyk, Midrand.
They never heard from her again.
Bvuma said he realised something was wrong when he arrived at home an Slitoor was not there.
She had called him at 7.30pm to tell him her arrangement with the taxi driver - but she was not at home when got there.
Bvuma said he drove around Midrand before calling Mlandu.
After criss-crossing Midrand for some time and checking the complex they decided to report her missing.
Captain Martin Hulk of the Midrand police said investigations led them to the taxi driver, who took them to where Slitoor's body had been dumped before it was found by the security guard.
